Zippers
No matter the zipper option you choose, all zippers need to be cleaned and lubricated on a regular basis. When a zipper slider begins to feel stiff, it’s time to clean and lube. A toothbrush or compressed air is all you need to clean the zipper teeth. Chapstick or the edge of a wax candle are good options if you’re unable to source a proper zipper care product.
Our standard zipper:
YKK AquaGuard PU coated coil zipper
The AquaGuard® coil zipper is treated with a polyurethane film that is laminated to the back of the coil zipper, providing water-resistance. The tape is glossy which enhances the appearance of packs. The zipper is heat resistant and durable against washing and performs well in low-temperature environments.
Many claim that coil zipper teeth are stronger and more flexible than molded tooth zippers, making them a great choice for outdoor gear.
Our frame packs are built standard using #8 size zipper chain wit’s metal sliders. We have had great success using YKK brand AquaGuard coil zippers throughout the years.
A “Burlier” zipper option:
Paskal moulded tooth PU coated zipper
Consider the molded tooth zipper upgrade for a bit of insurance if you’ll be facing harsh and dusty conditions. Molded tooth zippers are trending in top frame bag brands. Many claim that moulded tooth zippers are more durable than coil for bike bag applications.
